The vast majority of contacts are arrayed with a litany of impressive, and some prestigious, backgrounds among which include Oxford University, New York University, Barrow Neurological Institute, the University of Nottingham, the Royal College of Psychiatrists, the Institute of Psychiatry, San Francisco State University, Princeton and dozens of others.
Always considering either of the two metaphysical possibilities, Leslie Kean introduces the survivalist and “living agent psi” (LAP) theories, which form the backbone to monitoring events throughout the research. The main topics comprise startling cases for reincarnation, near-death and out-of-body experiences, mediumship, interactive apparitions, seances, ectoplasmic manifestations and poltergeist occurrences along with human generated abilities.
The reincarnation cases of James Leininger and Ryan Hammons are stupefying. An outstanding point in the near-death-experiences (NDEs) and non-local conscious situations is that it is curious about “who or what is seeing?” as opposed to the brain or eye of individuals who are reporting accurate descriptions of their environments and circumstances from outside of their bodies. It is theorized that the informational fields of our consciousness are likely consisting of waves beyond time and space, yet are ever present around us. This is all the more fascinating in light of the recent validations of gravitational waves.
The actual-death and end-of-life experiences in addition to intermission memories that exemplify reincarnation possibilities are breathtaking to grasp. Leslie Kean's first hand observation at the seances are quite enlightening, especially involving the ectoplasmic manifestations. The latter of which has never won me over with legitimacy,...perhaps until now. Black and white as well as color photographs span sixteen pages depicting the reincarnation subjects, mediums, seances and molded casts of appendages from the aforementioned.
One figure that is noticeably absent in the discussion of seances is Harry Houdini, who highly contributed to the investigation of seances and the supposed phenomena after the turn of the century when Spiritualism was at its peak. Houdini so deftly debunked everything he encountered, especially ectoplasm. The fact that he is not even mentioned, let alone given credit for his service to paranormal studies is a cause for hesitance in any “objectivity” presented in this segment, particularly regarding ectoplasm. And with the narrow pool of genuine mediums gifted with actual authenticity, it is also confusing that there is no mention of renowned physical medium Amy Allan, who has a respectable history of involvement and contribution in the parapsychological and psychological fields.
Surviving
Death is an exegesis into the greatest spiritual and scientific
mystery bestowing Leslie Kean the Parapsychological Association Book Award for 2017. As a long-time subscriber to the Parapsychological
Association, it was a delight, albeit an unsurprising one, to receive
the announcement in August about the spectacular recognition for this
book that I had just completed reviewing.
Personally,
this book arrived at the most opportune time: less than one month
after my own beloved father unexpectedly passed away. Although
parapsychology is a primary interest in my life, it is rather
astonishing at the divine timing this treasure fortuitously happened
to manifest in my hands. And for this I am all the more grateful for
Leslie Kean's excellent work. Appropriately I have promoted
Surviving Death with loved ones passing it along to other
grieving minds to rationalize in congruence to their mourning hearts.
