New Spirit-Filled Life Bible [NKJV] ~ Dr. Jack Hayford

Find the Holy Spirit throughout the Bible. Dr. Jack Hayford, founding pastor of The Church on the Way, has led a team of anointed leaders to produce the New Spirit-Filled Life Bible. Even after more than twenty years, the Spirit-Filled Life Bible offers a fresh look at the Scriptures and the work of the Holy Spirit. This Bible addresses important issues of Spirit-filled living in the context of solid biblical scholarship.

As an avid student of Judeo-Christian research and eschatology, bibles occupy shelves in my private library as if they are going out of style. The Holy Scriptures is the one book, however, that will never come close to approaching that scenario. As the greatest story ever told and the global best seller of all time, one would think they could never go wrong with this book, especially as a believer and follower of the God of Israel and Jesus Christ. Nevertheless, different versions pose a threat to this assumption. The New King James Version may not be perfect, but it is a personal preference and a universally popular one through the Church. One can simply pick up a Bible with preordained confidence of its contents merely based on its version, right? Stop the press...not so.

While for the most part this may hold true for the most important part, the translation, different publishers and editors package their books in a variety of ways, hence the unending sea of choices upon entering a book shop, an online store, churches (even within the same denominations), or heated debates amongst scholars. So while the reader can pretty much relax with the actual translated Word of God with regard to the version (though I still find myself on guard), it is basically narrowed down to looking at the added, or even depleted and rather simplified, bells and whistles.

The New Spirit-Filled Life Bible in focus is a large hardback with 2064 pages complete with ample visual and educational references to parallel the reader's journey through the Holy Word of God. Typically it opens with a dedication page for the reader's sentiment followed by a detailed introduction into this version's layout and exclusive content, such as Kingdom Dynamics. Renowned pastors and leaders are featured expounding upon topics within little excerpts throughout the Bible.

Investigating the litany of names provided in the Contributors section reveals the only possibility of a personal aversion. While some may seem unfamiliar at first, it is a bit alarming to see names such as Paul Crouch and Pat Robertson. On the other hand, several other famous names are delightfully highlighted such as the late Billy Joe Daugherty and Oral Roberts, James Robison and a personal favorite, Marilyn Hickey. Zeroing in on each one's particular contribution make any controversy obsolete. Their input is very minute. Concise and to the point these figures offer inspiration or a bit of educational insight into perhaps the origin of a word or how a certain antiquated passage may be currently applied personally to the reader and the future of our world. These tidbits are small paragraphs dispersed throughout the Word.

A great number of graphic charts as well as eight pages of full color maps bookend the Bible in the back. An extensive concordance and a section for personal notes are complete with a blue silk ribbon for a bookmark. The best feature unique to the New Spirit-Filled Life Bible is the Word Wealth section listing critical key words aligned next to their Hebrew or Greek transliteration and their location in the Scriptures. The vast majority of the time when opening up any given page throughout this Old and New Testament Bible it is visually decorated with supplementary information. An outline of the author, date and information are provided at the beginning of each Scriptural book as well.

All in all, if the New King James Version is a preference of yours, it is highly recommended to obtain a copy of this beautiful New Spirit-Filled Life Bible. And as with many illuminating Bibles, this makes a most ideal gift to any seasoned believer, new disciple of Christ or just the curious hovering on the edge of Judeo-Christianity.
